Cognitive Bias

In the workplace, cognitive bias impacts all of the decisions that we make, as wells a how we interact and collaborate, although sometimes it happens unconsciously. To create an inclusive and effective workplace, being able to accurately and consistently identify and mitigate biases is paramount. Giving learners the opportunity to explore their cognitive biases and become more aware of them, will strengthen the organization.

Module Details

Learners are tasked with mitigating their own cognitive biases, as well as identifying cognitive bias expressed by others. The scenario is a back and forth exchange, in which both the learner must avoid the pitfalls of expressing bias, as well as identify when the virtual human is exhibiting bias. To be successful in the scenario, the learner must identify 3 biases before exhibiting them.

Skills practiced

The Cognitive Bias module does not evaluate skills. Learners will gain awareness and understanding of unconscious biases that may arise during conversation.

Learning objectives

Learners will be able to identify bias blind spots, confirmation bias, and fundamental attribution error as they arise in conversation
Learners will be able to mitigate cognitive biases including bias blind spots, confirmation bias, and fundamental attribution error, though mindful awareness, before acting on them.
